This website covers mainly the section of the roman Fosse Way through Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire – i.e where modern roads follow the original route.
Beyond Leicester the Fosse Way extended to Newark and Lincoln, whilst south of Cirencester the route went on to Bath and Exeter. However, it is only evident in small stretches in these areas, often just as overgrown tracks.
Originally a ditch, the Fosseway was filled in to become a road running about 190 miles between Lincoln and Ilchester in Somerset.
